    Hi  ,

Great question — in Sage Payroll (Canada), the Record of Employment (ROE) is generated as an XML file because that is the format required for uploading to ROE Web. However, you can still view and print the ROE information — you just need to open the ROE in ROE Web after generating the XML.

    How to print your ROE:

    1. Generate the ROE in Sage Payroll (this produces the XML file).
    2. Log in to ROE Web through Service Canada.
    3. Upload the XML file.
    4. Once uploaded, ROE Web will allow you to view, save, or print the ROE as a PDF.

Here is Sage’s step-by-step guide, including how to issue and work with ROEs:
Issue Record of Employment forms – Sage Payroll (Canada)

ROE Web is the only place where the printable format is created — Sage Payroll doesn’t generate a PDF directly, so what you’re seeing with the XML file is expected behaviour.

If you run into any issues uploading the XML file or printing from ROE Web, feel free to share more details here and we can help.

I am aware of this but I like to save time and confirm the information is correct prior to uploading. Unfortunately sage said this information is on the employees paystub which is incorrect. Just makes more work and the xml file would not upload so I still needed the information to manually input.
