EFT Direct: Originator number - RBC doesn't know what I'm talking about

Is anybody using EFT Direct and banking with RBC?

I've been using Bambora/BeanStream for years for our vendor payments and only just learned about EFT Direct. Sigh.

But - and this is a big but - no one I spoke with at RBC had any idea what I meant when I asked for an Originator number and an Institution Number. Sage technical support just told me to "read what's written under the 'i' beside the field" with regards to describing the information I need. Well, I'd already done that and they still have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm obviously missing some key information, although I've googled everything I can think of.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Hi!  We are just setting up EFT with RBC and unfortunately we are having problems as well.  You posted 3 months ago.  I'm just wondering if your issue has been resolved.  RBC provided us with the Originator No.  Our problem is the file routing record.  RBC has been telling us to enter the "file routing record" on Sage.  We called Sage and Sage said that they don't need that information.  All we needed to enter was Originator No (client no with RBC), Institution No. for Returns (003 for RBC) and Account No. for Returns (company RBC account no).  Sage even viewed our screen and he confirmed that we have entered the required information.

Did RBC ask you about entering "file routing record" in Sage?
