SMTP error still when attempting to email invoices and statements

Yesterdays instructions to rid this issue has not worked as of yet.  Is there an updated fix?

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand the frustration with the SMTP error still occurring when emailing invoices and statements, especially after following the previous instructions. Here's the latest update that might help:

Microsoft has recently made changes to the security of their email addresses, which is affecting the SMTP connection. As of September 16th, Microsoft personal email account users (Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com) are required to use Modern Authentication methods in their email application. These changes are being rolled out in waves, and while the email may have worked previously, accounts might stop working as these updates take effect.

Here are a few solutions/workarounds you can try:

    1. Use a desktop email client like Outlook, instead of webmail settings.
    2. Use a different email account.
    3. Print the document to PDF and manually attach it to your email.
    4. If you're sending pay slips, using Sage HR is an option.

Once the 2025.0 release is available, you'll have the additional option to use Sage Connect to email sales invoices.

For more details, you can stay updated on the issue through this Announcement, and refer to this Microsoft blog post for additional information.

If this doesn't resolve your issue, please let us know, and we can explore other options together.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

If this helps please mark it as verified :)

    Good Afternoon Erzsi!

We too are having issues with the e-mail.  We have instituted the work around of print to .pdf for the moment although cumbersome and more time consuming.

Is there a timetable for the 2025.0 release?  Using a different e-mail or a desktop client causes issues in access, traceability & response in our business environment.  We rely heavily on our existing web based e-mail, as it is accessible and shareable between staff for AR follow-ups, payments and communication.  Taking invoicing outside of that chain of communication causes serious confusion in following a trial of correspondence.

    Hi  ,

Sage 50 Canada version 2025.0 is set to release the week of October 15, 2024. Please make sure your forum notifications are on to catch upcoming announcements with more details.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

  • We certainly hope that our use of a hotmail account continues with this release of 2025.0.  The costs involved with having to change to a different email account will be sizeable and not in the budget.

Thank you for pointing out these issues to Sage. The suggested workarounds have and will continue to add time, cost, inconveniences and frustration to workflow. As for Desktop client option, we have multiple email accounts and have multiple company's using same Sage ID. Therefore, sending invoices/payment notices etc for Company B, default within client to Company A within Desktop client. Result is the "From" with emails being sent for Company B, get sent under name of Company A.

We need MFA for Sage portal, I'm sure the Sage engineers can incorporate within Sage 50. We, like most, will not be terrible pleased to have to pay for more add-ons like Sage Connect. Additionally, we are a small non-profit with a small payroll footprint, so paying for Sage HR definitely makes no sense.

I'm hoping for best from SAGE and their engineers.

Erzsi, is Sage Connect something that is included in the (already high) cost for Sage 2025.0, or is it an add-on for another fee?

Has there been any progess on this with Microsoft / Web Based Outlook?  We are using the work around of creating .pdfs but it is time consuming and tedious.
