Unresolved amounts with the bank reconciliation

SOLVED

Hi,

I am not a bookkeeper, but am trying to be self taught.

The opening balance on the reconciliation is correct to the bank statement and I have only 1 outstanding item for 615.95.  That shows as outstanding -615.95 at the bottom.  (When I enter the end balance from the statement I think I should be entering what's on the balance minus the outstanding cheque - correct?)

Regardless my question is that once the bank balance is entered as the closing balance I have an unresolved amount of 2683.05.  When I check the knowledge base about this it tells me to "enter an account to which you want to charge an adjustment for the unresolved amount".

-where would the unresolved amount be coming from?

-what account do I charge this amount to? I don't get any of this.

Thank you

Wendy

    Hi Wwynn,

Statement end balance also comes from your bank statment as the statement opening balance

If you have an unresolved amount, written below are the possible causes:

    1. Wrong statement end balance
    2. Not enough (or too many) cleared (or uncleared) transactions
    3. Missing transactions or transaction was posted in the wrong month
    4. Mistake/typo in the transaction amount

Sage 50 calculates your unresolved based on the following equation:

Outstanding + Statement End Balance = General Ledger Report End Balance

If these are not equal, the difference is the unresolved amount.

If you have an unresolved amount, you can assign it to an expense account you want.  If you want to create a new expense account, you can name it Bank Rec. Unresolved Amount.  If the unresolved amount is negative, it will credit the bank account and debit the expense account.  If it is positive, vice versa.

The link below has an article about how to work with unresolved amount, you can have a look at it.

In the bank reconciliation. I have an Unresolved amount but discrepancy amount is zero.

The last resort is to reset your bank rec if you are unable to figure out why you have the unresolved amount

    Hope this helps
