Using SAGE 50 Pro with a SAGE 50 Premium data file

Question

We have a SAGE 50 premium data file that was created on our old business partner's SAGE account. 
 We want to use that file in SAGE 50 Pro which is our SAGE account as we are no longer with that business partner and want to separate our file from his. 
 I have downloaded Sage 50 Pro but am unable to open the SAGE 50 premium data file. 
 Is there a way to make this work? We would prefer not to have to upgrade our software if it is not needed as the Premium edition is quite a bit more expensive and we do not need all the options it provides as this is just a small (sole proprietor) business with only 1 employee. 
 Please advise.

Hello GWC18, 
 Unfortunately, there is no option to downgrade a Sage 50 Premium file to a Sage 50 Pro file. If you want to be able to work on your existing file from your Sage business partner, you would need to upgrade your Sage 50 Pro license to Sage 50 Premium. An alternative would be to have your Sage business partner export records from the Sage 50 Premium file and then you can create a new company file in your Sage 50 Pro license and import those records. This option would basically require you to enter opening balances for all your records and no transaction history will be present on the new file.
