Sage 50 Pro 2013 Unable to open backup file

I had to re-install Sage 50 2013 on my computer and now cannot open my back up file.

Before I uninstalled the (was hoping to install it on another computer - different issue...) I created a backup file. When I re-installed the exact same version, I was unable to open the backup file I had saved. The error message I get is...

This data has been updated to a new file format and is now incompatible with this version of the software. Once you upgrade data to a newer version, it works with the new version only.

I don't understand how this file could have been upgraded when it was created by the Sage 50 pro 2013 I originally installed and re-installed.

I was asked by a Sage rep if I had downloaded a newer or higher level trial version at any point and I have not.

Any other suggestions? Could I have downloaded an update at some point in the last year that would do this?

From Help | About Sage 50....    make note of the version number, also click on 'Support Info' and make note of the version of Sage50Accounting.exe.

Mine happens to be 2014.2, which is Version 21.20.0000.0001

Locate the company file (.SAI extension) and open, but DON"T change or save it, with Notepad (right-click on it) and see what the 'DataVersion number is:

    <root><Product>Sage 50 Quantum Accounting 2014</Product><DataVersion>21201</DataVersion><DatabaseType>7</DatabaseType><CompanyName>UNIVERSAL CONSTRUCTION</CompanyName><CompanyType>3</CompanyType><DataCountryType>1</DataCountryType><FiscalStartDate>20140701</FiscalStartDate><FiscalEndDate>20150630</FiscalEndDate><SessionDate>20150331</SessionDate><LatestTransactionDate>20150331</LatestTransactionDate></root>

That will tell you (without opening it in the software) what version the data is.

You may have downloaded and installed 2013.1, but the software may have automatically downloaded updates after that.

    I hope that helps,

    Randy
