Ok. Won’t bore you with the details. Suffice to say my old acct system handled inventory differently. When inventory was received, it would NOT have any impact on the Inventory Asset class that it belonged to. That was only impacted when the invoice was posted in A/P.
Now, in Sage, I was paying invoices and coding them to the appropriate inventory class. The product was coming from oversees, so I had to pay invoices is to convert it to a full before shipment. All fine. At that same time I create a Purchase order to help keep track of what’s in order, etc and waiting to be received after it floats across the pond. Lo and behold, it seems the only way to receive the purchase order is to convert it to a purchase invoice. When processing it, it wants to (of course) apply a form of payment (it has already been paid) and increase the inventory asset class that has already been increased through the early prepayment. I know I’m old, I know I’m tired, and I know there is a Prepayment asset class already in Sage, but I am at a loss as to how to use it seamlessly without creating work arounds like GJ entries.
Next in my list is why I am getting Error messages when trying to create new inventory items. I am obviously doing something that I am not supposed to do in Sage that I used to be able to do in my old program. The error message says something like “The code you are using is outside of the class range 1000-1999” (it’s not) or that account is in use” (haven’t the foggiest on that, I have no other windows open). I suspect it’s the way I have been receiving inventory or journaling to move values around, whatever it might be. Anybody feel like helping me drink a 26er in broad daylight???
