Hi,
Would you mind confirming us if box 39 could be create in SAGE 50 Premium Accounting (Release 2025.2) per T4, please?
Thanks in advance,
Hi SCZ ,
Short answer: T4 Box 39 is the Security options deduction (ITA 110(1)(d)). It’s used when an employee has a taxable stock-option benefit (Box 38) and qualifies for the 50% deduction for options exercised before June 25, 2024. For options on/after June 25, 2024, CRA added new boxes 91/92 for the 33⅓% deduction, see this resource for additional details.
In Sage 50 (CA) 2025.2: T4s print the standard boxes plus the Other information area. Depending on build, Box 39 may not appear in the program’s drop-down (this has been raised previously by users). If it isn’t available in your T4 mapping, you can still file correctly by adding Box 39 (or 91/92) through CRA Web Forms / T4 Internet file transfer after exporting your T4s from Sage 50, or by amending the slip with CRA if already filed. Read on for additional details here.
Best-practice steps (GAAP/CRA-aligned):
Confirm the stock-option benefit amount (Box 38) and the eligible deduction (Box 39 for pre-June-25-2024; Box 91/92 for later exercises). Keep working papers that reconcile to Box 14. Read here for more details.
In Sage 50, generate T4s as usual.
If Box 39 (or 91/92) is available in your build’s Other information list, select it and enter the amount.
If the code is not listed, export and add the code/amount in CRA Web Forms before submission (or file an amendment). See here for additional T4 slip details from the Governement of Canada.
Verify the XML/printout and retain the CRA acknowledgement.
For reference, CRA’s box descriptions are here (see Box 39 – Security options deduction and the new 91/92 guidance).
Sage’s general note on T4 box availability is here.
I'll forward this post to our team to check internally whether 2025.2 year-end forms will surface Box 39/91/92 in the UI for all users; if not, we’ll post the official workaround. If this helps, please mark it as verified :)
Thanks for your patience while I followed up internally. I’ve confirmed that Box 39 is not currently available in Sage 50 CA, and if amounts need to be reported in Box 39, T4s cannot be generated directly from Sage 50 for those fields. While additional T4 options have been added in the past based on customer feedback, at this time there are no plans to add Boxes 39, 91, or 92, and these will need to be entered manually through CRA Web Forms/T4 Internet file transfer or by amending with CRA if already filed.
The best practice remains:
Generate T4s from Sage 50 as usual.
If Box 39 (or 91/92) is not listed in your version, export and add the values in CRA Web Forms before submission.
We recognize this limitation and know it has been raised by customers previously. I’ll keep this thread updated if future versions of Sage 50 CA introduce Box 39/91/92 in the program itself.
If this helps, please mark this as verified so others facing the same situation can find it quickly :)
