Vendor Payment screen - Reference box greyed out

Suggested

I am trying to post a payment in the Vendor Payment window, and it is not allowing me to add the cheque number as the Reference window is greyed out. What setting do I need to adjust? I have selected a chequing bank account and payment method is cheque.

    Hi  ,

Thanks for the details — that’s helpful. Before we go too far, could you please confirm which product you’re using? It’s not entirely clear whether this is Sage Accounting or Sage 50 Canada, and the behaviour of the Reference (cheque number) field can differ depending on the product.

Once we know that, we can give you more precise steps. In the meantime, here are a couple of resources that may help if you’re working in Sage Accounting:

In some cases, the Reference field can be greyed out if the payment was auto-numbered, already saved, or created using a specific payment workflow.

Please let us know which product you’re using (Sage Accounting or Sage 50 Canada), and whether this is a new payment or an existing one you’re editing, and we’ll be happy to guide you further.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I am using Sage Accounting Standard, the client was using Simply Accounting 2011 and this is what they've upgraded to.

I entered an expense, and went back to enter the (new) payment for that expense, which was payed by cheque. As soon as I choose cheque as the method of payment, the reference box turns gray and will not let me enter a cheque number. If I choose another form of payment, the reference box is available, so I tried entering the cheque number and then changing the method of payment back to cheque...it just deletes it.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to address?

**Edited to add: I tried posting the payment through the Banking page, and was able to enter the cheque number after searching the vendor. It seems like a somewhat cumbersome way to get there though....any suggestions?
