Request for Guidance on Backup – Sage Account Production Desktop Version

Dear Sage Support Team,

Good morning.

We are currently using the Sage Account Production Desktop version for our company and would like your guidance on properly configuring backups for our data.

Specifically, we would like your support on the following points:

  1. Step-by-step instructions for taking a manual backup of all company data.

  2. Confirmation whether the software provides an automatic or scheduled backup feature, and if so, instructions on how to configure it.

  3. If fully automatic backup is not natively supported, we would appreciate your recommended method or best practices for automatically backing up Sage data to a local folder, network drive, or cloud storage.

  4. Any additional advice on ensuring backup integrity and restoring data in case of accidental loss.

Given the critical nature of financial data, it is very important for us to implement a reliable and secure backup solution.

We would greatly appreciate your guidance and any official documentation or resources you can provide.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards,
Mirwais Jalil

    Hi Mirwais,

    Thanks for your post.

We don't have an automatic or scheduled backup feature within Sage Accounts Production.

You can manually take a full system backup: How to create a backup copy of your SAP Data - This must be completed manually, in the software by the user.

Alternatively, you can back up the dataset directory. You can find the directory by opening Tool > Settings> Workstation Settings and making a note the default data path location. If are backing up this directory using scheduled backups or third-party applications, make sure the backups run when the files are not in use, as active files can sometimes cause interference with SAP.

If this helps, let me know by clicking Verify Answer.

    Hi Andy,

Thank you for your clear explanation and guidance.

We understand and confirm that Sage Account Production Desktop does not have a built-in automatic or scheduled backup feature, and that manual backups must be taken within the software by the user.

Based on your advice, we will proceed as follows:

    • Continue to take manual full system backups directly from the Sage software.

    • Identify the default dataset directory via Tools → Settings → Workstation Settings.

    • Configure a scheduled backup using Windows or a third-party backup tool to back up the dataset directory to a secure external or network location, ensuring that backups run outside working hours when files are not in use.

This approach aligns with our internal data protection and business continuity requirements.

Thank you again for your support and clarification. We appreciate your assistance.
