Brought forward balances include previous years balances

Hi,

I have run the year end for 2023, but the balance sheet for January is pulling through transactions from as far back as 2017, so the year to date figures are incorrect. Have I done something wrong when running the year end or have previous year ends not been run (I am new to the company) and how do I correct this? Thanks

  • The issue of transactions from prior years (e.g., 2017) appearing in your January 2023 balance sheet suggests that previous year-ends might not have been closed properly, or adjustments from prior periods were not handled correctly.

    • Check if the prior years' financial periods (e.g., 2017–2022) were closed correctly in your accounting system.
    • If previous years are still open, transactions from those years may continue to affect current reports. Run a trial balance for past years to identify unclosed transactions.
