Sage crashing on vat report

Sage v24 keeps crashing for 1 user when trying to run a detailed preview vat report. It only crashes on one windows 10 machine. All other users using the same data set have no issues on other machines. Any ideas?

    Hi,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

Sage 50 Accounts v24 is an older version that is no longer supported, I would encourage you to upgrade to v29 whenever that is possible.

For a crashing issue, I'd always try to narrow down whether the problem is the software, the data, the user's profile or something environmental maybe on one computer. Since other users on other computers can run the software, including the detailed VAT Report without incident, this suggests its not a data issue. So just to narrow it down a bit further:

    • Can the user with the issue log in on a different computer and run the report without incident?
    • Can one of the users who doesn't experience problems log on to the Windows 10 computer and run the same report without incident?
    • Do all of the computers use Windows 10 or is there a mix of operating systems?
    • When the crash occurs are there any error messages or does the software just close?

    Regards,

    Thanks Andy, sorry its v27.2

The user can log in on another machine and run the report. It was working fine on the machine last week.

In the menu on the vat reports section there is some characters that look like they are encoded in non utf8 format. I can run some vat reports , but bigger ones or ones past a certain date cause a crash.

There is no error message, just a crash.

I've run all Windows updates etc.

Thanks for coming back. If the user with the issue tries to run the same report in Demodata does the report run or fail? Are all of the computers on a local network or do some connect using Remote Data Access?

It runs with demo data, it's only crashing with 3 or 4 of the real data reports, most if them work.

After narrowing this down it suggests it's something environmental, to work out if its the computer or the network we can bring the data local to that computer for testing. The following article explains how to do that and how to undo it: How to create a new a set of data locally >  If it works with local data it suggests a network issue, if it still fails it suggests something specific to the computer.

Thanks, it will be something to do with the local machine but it will also be something to with sage on that machine , so I'm trying to narrow it down. Could it be anything to with encoding of files ( this wouldn't make sense as other computers will open the same data files )

I can't see it being the coding as if it were, nobody would be able to run the reports. I would suggest taking it to Sage Technical Support at this stage to see if they can dig any further into it. You can reach them here: Sage Technical Support >

Hi, I had an issue recently with a customer using v27.2 and the detailed vat report not showing all information, I had to edit the vat files to change the encoding from ANSI to UTF-8 but then when running the detailed report the whole system would crash. After a bit of research I found the steps below which fixed the problem by unticking the beta box:

The high level steps are as follows:

    1. Close all programs.
    2. Press the Windows key + R.
    3. In the Open box, type intl.cpl then click OK.

      The Formats tab opens automatically.

    4. Click the Administrative tab then click Change system locale.
    5. Clear the Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support check box then click OK.
    6. Restart your computer.
