VAT CODE FOR CHARITY DONATION

Question

Hi - can you help and advise which VAT code should be used for a charity donation that we have recently made - I am thinking it should be T9 but would appreciate your thoughts. We are based in the UK and are a VAT registered company. Thank you for your help.

Hi LB61, The following guidance suggests donations given for nothing in return are classed as outside the scope of VAT, which would normally be a T9 tax code, but as with any advice around legislation I would recommend checking with your accountant or HMRC: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-vat-affects-charities-notice-7011
