individual sections of Sage accounts will not close the page to allow me to back up the data with all pages closed down

I have been using bank accounts, suppliers and customers all of which need closing before I back up and shut down, but when I click on close from the left hand menu, nothing happens.

I can change screens from suppliers to customets etc but not close them down.

Any ideas?

    Hello

Before I can give a full answer, could you let me know what happens when you click File then Back up? Do you see any message pop up?

If you do, it usually means there’s another window still open in the background. Sometimes they can be easy to miss. A quick way to check is to hold down Alt and press Tab on your keyboard to cycle through any open Sage windows. That should help you find and close anything that’s still running.

Let me know what you see and we’ll go from there!

    Thanks

Thank you. I cannot get to the back up either. I click on file>back up and nothing happens, so I end up having to close the whole programme and then when I log in again, it tells me Sage was not shut down correctly.

I am more concerned about not being able to close any of the windows I have been working on, that the back up to be honest! It does not say "Sage is not responding" or anything like that.

This has happened twice now over the last two weeks- other than that it has worked fine. It may be something to do with the last update I put on which lost my desk top icon altogether and your helpline eventually had to uninstall and reinstall the accounts software- so I am not uploading any more updates as the new additions I do not need for such a small company as ours.

    Thank you

    Hi Janet,

If you're happy that no windows are open in the background using the Alt and Tab as Annie described, the next step is to rule out any issues with your data.

First create a back up, presuming you can get to this option after restarting? Then you can reindex, compress and check your data for errors, the following articles will help with that:

    The Reindex option
    The Compress data option

If you have no errors, and the problem persists, then I recommend contacting Sage Technical Support so they can investigate for you as this isn't a known issue and not a behaviour we've seen before.

    Thanks,
