Qualifying Earnings tick box in Pay Element tab

Hi, 
 What does this qualifying earnings tick box mean please? 
 Trying to set up a new pay element and in the edit tab there is the below tick box and I'm not sure what it means

Hi Celina, If selected, the Qualifying Earnings earnings box means the payment will be included in pension assessments (if you're using the pensions module) and also to calculate pension contributions where the scheme uses qualifying earnings for pensionable pay.
