Sage P11D To be used as calculator for Payrolling Benefits

SUGGESTED

We have just added Sage P11D module to allow us to calculate car benefits from April 25 as we are going to start payrolling benefits from this date.  I notice that it's showing as P11D 23-24 and not 24-25, is this due to the update not being available until nearer the year end?  I thought I'd enter all of the car benefits just now so they are ready to go in April next year.  Just wondering if these will be calculated at the correct amounts for 25-26 tax year if the software is a year behind?  New to this side of things so I may be missing something obvious! thanks

You can calculate the car benefits via the payroll software you do not need the P11D module to do this, enter the information under the Car/Fuel tab on the employee record and click the 'payrolled benefit' bit, this gives you the cash equivalent value for the vehicle.

the P11D software is never updated until way after the year end, usually end May/June time so don't expect it until then.

I didn't realise this, when I spoke to Sage I said I didn't want to use it for P11D's but only to calculate benefits for payrolling and they said this would do this.  I think I need to go back to them as we've just paid over £1k for something we don't really need! thanks for your reply.

    Hi Elaine,

The P11D software version available now is for benefits from 23/24. When we release the new version, normally around March/April, it will apply for benefits for 24/25 as its always for the previous tax year. Benefit information can be added on now and when the new version is installed the benefit details will be recalculated.
For payrolling benefits such as a car, Sarah is right that Sage 50 Payroll can do BIK to pay tax and work out cash equivalents, but Sage 50 Payroll doesn't do the Employer Class 1a NIC / P11D(b) side for which Sage P11D would be required.

You can do the Employers class 1a and P11D(b) via HMRC on-line tool you still don't need the P11D software to be able to do this.

Thanks I was under the impression that the P11D software would calculate the benefits for payrolling but as the legislation is always for the previous year it won't give me the correct amounts for payrolling from April 25. The Sage Knowledge base article  told me that if I used the software I'd have to calculate manually and enter manually, hence the reason for the purchase of the P11D software.  The Class 1A calc wouldn't really have been an issue, I can do that manually at year end.

Thanks Sarah, yes I can do that part (even without software if necessary).  Just a shame we purchased the P11D software thinking it was going to do the benefit calcs when it wasn't really needed.  Hopefully when payrolling becomes mandatory then Sage will update the payroll software to automatically add the correct  pro rate monthly amounts for taxable benefits, without having to manually input .
