    Hi Andrea

On what grounds are you issuing a pension refund?  My understanding is that other than during the opt-out period (about 35 days after auto-enrolment) pension contributions cannot be refunded and remain in the scheme until eligible for drawdown/retirement.  But if it was last tax year, that certainly seems to be outside any opt-out window.  Have you checked this with your pension scheme provider?  Just because someone leaves your employment it doesn't mean they get their contributions refunded.

Hi, we operate the NHS pension . There has been an overpayment of NHS contributions. NHS Pensions sometimes notify employers that if an employee has a 2nd job ( outside of our organisation) they have gone over the maximum they can contribute . They are then due a refund of employee contributions. I need to understand what the process is for leavers . I presume if in this tax year I can reinstate them and refund via enter payments and then make them a leaver again. However I was not sure what to do if they left in a previous tax year.   Thanks for any advice you can give.
