Sole Trader - Frequently asked questions

Accounting start date

Your accounting start date controls the earliest date you can record transactions in Sage Sole Trader.

  • Start dates align with the UK tax year, from 6 April to 5 April

Is Sage Sole Trader right for landlords?

Yes, UK landlords can use Sage Sole Trader.
If you also have another income source, you'll need a separate subscription for that income.

Why can't I connect to HMRC / MTD?

Connection issues often occur when you are not registered for MTD. They can also be caused by incorrect National Insurance numbers or Government Gateway details. Follow our troubleshooting steps to check and fix these issues.

Can I use Sage Sole Trader for CIS?

Sage Sole Trader Paid supports CIS:  Construction Industry Scheme

Quarterly updates vs end of year declarations
