how to view vat balance

hi all.. 

New to VAT and HMRC BTA and having made a duplicate payment manually to HMRC I rang them to ask about my current balance.

They informed me that the running balance should be available in sage.  I can't see it anywhere.  All I can see is the vat report which includes the report history and whether i've marked it as paid.

HMRC stated that sage should hold the actual running balance held in the portal.  Is that right?

    Hi Stephen,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

    Unfortunately Sage Accounting don't have access to that level of information. The only thing that Sage Accounting tracks is your VAT Returns as you've seen. 

    I believe the running balance of your payments to HMRC would be available within your Government Gateway account but HMRC should be able to tell you better. 

    I'm not sure why HMRC have told you that but you definitely can't see that in Sage Accounting.

    thanks... thats what i thought... I have no clue why that would be the case but he was adamant that sage can pull the portal running balance... what a pain as theres no way of knowing the balance without calling (MTD/BTA doesn't show it either).  what a pain
