MTD for CorporationTaxNTD

SUGGESTED

Has anyone any information on this?

We have seen we need to use this for our next submission but cant find any information about this

If this is expensive - as MTD for VAT is (for us at least) then it will kill our buisness completely

    Hi Jane,

    Thanks for your post.

MTD for Corporation Tax is paused by HMRC at present. The current position as of June 2025 is:

    • MTD for Corporation Tax is not yet live.
    • HMRC has no confirmed mandation date yet.
    • A voluntary pilot is expected, but has not started as of now.

I wonder if you're referring to the closure of the gateway for corporation tax returns, which is different to MTD:

    Closure of the service...

Sage do not currently provide direct tax payer software for corporation tax, but we can refer you to an accountant who can help.

I think that you had better check your information is up to date - i filed my last year's accounts/Corporation Tax at the weekend and was presented with multiple screens saying that i needed to prepare for MTD.

The links from this suggest that i need to purchase MTD software to file my accounts.

Being forced to use an accountant rather than your software would kill my business as fast as software costs £100s for a single submission.

The cost of MTD for VAT is £100+ per submission which is pushing us close to deregistering for VAT as business is bad currently due to the ever changing Tarriffs from the US causing massive fluctuations in costs.

There's quite a lot going on in the world of compliance right now, including but not limited to...

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

Closure of the government gateways for

    • Self-Assessment (Via MTD mandated tax payers from April 2026)
    • Corporation Tax returns
    • Company Accounts

The screenshot shared is referencing the Closure of the service to file your company accounts and tax return, (which is not related to Making Tax Digital).

For online filing of your company accounts and tax return you would either need to use an accountant or find a software solution that provides that facility.

For software choice HMRC provides a link which can be found here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/closure-of-the-service-to-file-your-company-accounts-and-tax-return

Sage was listed as one of the software companies that could file the accounts and tax return

However i am still using TASBooks as Sage cannot handle the fact my end of year is not the end of a month

i previously tried to switch and was told i had to change my date as Sage couldnt handle mine.

Will TASBooks be getting an update to handle filing online?

Hi Jane, thanks for coming back.

TASBooks was officially retired in 2024 and is no longer supported. As part of the transition, we recommended TASBooks users move to Sage 50 Accounts.

Please note that Sage 50 Accounts only allows a financial year to start at the beginning of a month. If your financial year begins mid-month, you can still manage this by following the guidance in the following article: How to start your financial year mid-month.

Also, just to clarify, Sage 50 Accounts does not support the direct filing of company accounts and tax returns with HMRC. This functionality is available through our accountant-focused software solutions. While Sage is listed on HMRC’s list of commercial software providers, it is not currently listed as suitable for self-filers: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/corporation-tax-commercial-software-suppliers
