I am on Sage accounting (Cloud) and have set up my project codes, selected sales and purchase invoices but cannot see where on the invoice to add the code. can anyone help?

Thanks for using Sage Community Hub.
If you go to Sales/ Purchases and create a new invoice, select the three dots on the far right hand-side near the total. This should then allow you to select your project/ department.
