Good afternoon. 
 
 I am doing my first payroll, when I go to receive RPNS it puts all my staff on emergency tax. This isn&rsquo;t my first time paying them just the first time I&rsquo;ve done it myself and not used an accountant. any advice would be great.

Hi, 
 Thank you for using the Community Hub. 
 Due to the way Irish PAYE works the RPN determines what tax status is applied and this is driven by revenue There are 3 reasons. 
 
 The employee is new to your company 
 The employee hasn&rsquo;t provided you with their PPS number. If this scenario occurs, the employee pays tax at 41% on their total taxable earnings in the current pay run 
 Revenue states on the employee&rsquo;s RPN that their tax status is emergency &ndash; this can occur when setting up or migrating a payroll. 
 
 In your circumstances there are two things to do. 
 
 Check the set up of your pay roll. Have you followed the guidance about migrating a pay roll and in particular have you entered the PPS number. 
 Check with revenue that the RPN is correct - CAUTION: Employees should remain on emergency tax status until Revenue tells you otherwise. This will be via RPN.
