Annual leave and bank holiday

Hello,

How do I calculate annual leave for a prat-time employee who works variable hours every week?  For example: if the total number of hours worked since Jan are 500 hours, would the calculation look like this:

500 hours x 8% = 40 hours / 7 hours = 5.71 days

So I would pay them for 40 hours at their hourly rate and they would take 6 days annual leave, is this correct?  I am confused about the 7 hours, not sure if this is correct.

For the Bank holiday calculation i am taking 20% of the  average of all hours worked during the 5 weeks preceding the BH, is this correct?

Thank you

    Hi Pallavi,

    Thanks for using Community Hub.

As Sage Business Cloud Payroll doesn't have the functionality to support Holiday calculations, I'd advise you either check out some guidance here or contact Revenue.

I'd also suggest leaving some feedback in product so our product team can track impact and need.

I calculate A/L using the 8% Rule as you have.  My day is a 7 hour day.  I pay hourly.  Pay for 40 hours A/L not full days.

For Public Holidays it is a bit more complicated.  They must have worked 40 hours in the previous 5 weeks to qualify for P/H pay.  Then calculate it pro-rata.  ie work 1 day per week = 7hrs / 5 = 1.4 hours pay for P/H.
But I think if they normally work on the P/H day you might have to pay them for the day. Check this on WRC website.
Or if you are open and they are working, it is easier as if they work then you pay them double pay.
