Sage CRM 2024 R1: Harnessing Dimensions and Tagging

2 minute read time.

Tagging in Sage CRM enables users to associate entities with relevant tags without modifying the underlying data model, offering benefits such as flexibility in data capture, targeted marketing campaigns, enhanced reporting and analysis, and reduced customization efforts. These features empower businesses to adapt to their evolving needs and make informed decisions based on deeper insights into customer behaviour and trends.

Accountancy products such as Sage Intacct use the concept of Dimensions to simplify their chart of accounts.

Dimensional tagging in accounting software lets you categorize transactions with various tags (project ID, department, etc.) instead of relying on a rigid chart of accountsThis simplifies project work by:

  • Making project tracking easier
  • Offering flexible reporting on any combination of tags
  • Reducing errors from managing numerous project accounts

Overall, it keeps the chart of accounts clean, improves financial analysis, and adapts to your business needs.

The new Tagging system in Sage CRM 2024 R1 works in a very similar way. Tagging allows users to associate a company, an opportunity or an order with a 'project' or whatever they need without adding permanent codes in the data model. Sage CRM 2024 R1 Tagging uses an existing feature called Key Attributes in the background to allow data to be quickly and easily labelled.  A user can label any record without needing the System Administrator to change the underlying data model. A user can click on the summary screen for any entity and add a 'tag'.

Tagging offers several advantages over traditional data fields:

  • They are flexible
    • Tags allow you to capture additional data specific to your business needs without modifying the core structure of Sage CRMThis is useful for capturing information relevant to marketing campaigns, customer preferences, or project details.  A record can be tagged with multiple tags.
    • Adding a Tag is easier than adding a new field or changing the data model. This saves time and resources for our customers.
  • They are designed for marketing and reporting
    • Using Tagging you can create targeted marketing campaigns based on those tags (project, purchase history, event attendance.).
    • Tags enable you to generate reports and analyze data based on these additional details, providing deeper insights into customer behaviour and trends.
