Well, that's new! Chrome's "Add tab to new split view" feature

2 minute read time.

No sooner had I published an article on using Sage CRM with the Split Screen feature in Microsoft Edge than Google Chrome went and added something very similar.

If you missed the earlier post, you can find it here:

Google Chrome’s Add tab to new split view feature began rolling out towards the end of 2025. It started appearing for some users in Chrome versions 142 and 143, roughly October through December. Because the rollout was gradual, the feature did not appear on every machine at the same time. That is my excuse for not spotting it sooner.

The good news is that Chrome’s split view works very nicely with Sage CRM and delivers the same productivity benefits as Edge.

How to use Chrome split view in a new browser window

  1. Open Google Chrome and navigate to the first page you want to view, for example Sage CRM.

  2. Right-click on the tab and select Add tab to new split view.

  3. Chrome will automatically split the browser vertically, moving your first page to the left.

  4. In the empty pane on the right, select another page from the suggestions or enter a URL directly in the address bar.

Both pages will now appear side by side, with their tabs merged together at the top of the browser window.

To exit split view:

  • Right-click the merged tabs

  • Select Arrange split view

  • Choose Separate views

How to use Chrome split view with existing tabs

If you already have both pages open as separate tabs in the same Chrome window, you can combine them easily.

  1. With one of the pages active, right-click the tab of the second page.

  2. Select New split view with current tab.

Chrome will immediately place the two pages side by side.

Why this is useful for Sage CRM users

Chrome split view makes it easy to:

  • Compare two Sage CRM records side by side, such as two companies or opportunities

  • Work in Sage CRM while viewing Sage accounting web screens

  • Reduce tab switching and improve focus when handling customer queries

Like Edge, this is a browser feature rather than a Sage CRM feature, but it complements Sage CRM extremely well and requires no configuration at all.

If you spend much of your day in Sage CRM, Chrome’s split view is another simple tool worth adding to your productivity toolkit.
