Item Valuation Change and Recalculate Item History

The item valuation change utility takes a long time to run if you are revaluing a couple thousand items.  When each item is being revalued, the recalculate item history message appears indicating that function is being run.   With that being said, my customer ran a valuation change to change from Average to Standard Cost for 2,100 items.  A small percentage of the items had a Standard Cost already assigned in their item, so those were revalued at the [new] Standard cost; the others were valued the same using the item's warehouse average cost.  What is not understood is why the recalculate item history task kicked in for every item.  I can understand that it would need to be done for the items whose standard cost varies from the average cost, but why does it need to process for the items whose Average cost will become the Standard Cost and therefore no change in cost.  BTW these 2,100 items took 43.5 hours to complete.  My customer has more items to revalue and will have to break them up into groups to revalue over multiple weekends - doing the math, it can process about 48 items per hour.

The recalculate Item history is changing data in many other files when changing valuation methods/cost.  I definitely would suggest smaller groups.  What version and platform of Sage 100 are you using?  Have you experienced performance issues anywhere else in the application?   Do you have any 3rd party modifications?  You might check for knowledge articles on how to improve performance.  You may want to open a support ticket with the Technical Tools team if you are running a current version.  Some of the members of this team may have other suggestions they have used to resolve.

We helped a client with a project to convert 16,000 items from Average Cost to Standard Cost in December; and also experienced it would take "days" to complete even small processes.  Our client is SQL and on an older v2021 version; OM installed but not in use at that time, and we just "lived with it". The process took 2.5 minutes per item code, severely limiting how many they could post over one weekend.  It also used up all the CPU and required a reboot once the Cost Change was completed.

Some Sage utilities take an unreasonable amount of time (where I've had to abandon requests that would have literally taken years in processing time).

Always run these things directly on the server (instead of from a workstation), to make the processing as fast as it can possibly be.
