Default warehouse by Item

In item maintenance, each individual item can have a default warehouse code, however it does not seem to actually do anything.

If in purchase order or sales order, the default warehouse code by item appears to be entirely ignored.

The knowledgebase shows an enhancement request for both sales order and purchase order to actually honor the default warehouse code by item.

So if the system doesn't use the field in these areas, where does it actually get used?

Have you checked the Defaults screen in S/O and P/O Entry?

I'm assuming you're on 4.4.

I had glossed over that setting in S/O. To bad there is not a similar item in P/O.

Woo hoo. Successfully created my first useful script in 4.4 to make purchase order data entry pay attention to the default warehouse by item.

Pretty simple script, once I figured out what I was doing.

I know this is an old post but wondering if you would care to share that script for having PO to pay attention to the Item default warehouse when in line entry?
