Hi this is an old thread, but have you figured out how to create a work ticket through VI?  We are running into a similar issue, and that it seems impossible to write to Work Ticket Step through VI.

Did you notice in the Record tab there is a selection for Work Ticket Step, You need to indicate how a Step is recognized by noting which column has what value. 

Thanks Biglouie.  I did see WT section.  Screenshot of our test job below.  (Header Separate From Line Record option turned on).  We are passing StepNo, Description, ActivityCode, and etc exactly how it appears on an existing ticket to create a new ticket.  But all of WT assignments seem always ignored somehow, resulting in error message that says StepNo is missing.

What I meant was that on the Records tab you should move over WT for Work Ticket Step and indicate a column and a value that will let VI know that record is a Step just as the entry for Header record. 

ah, sorry I misunderstood.  We have the record tab configured to look at the first column for Header, WT, and Regular line like below.  Source file screen shot shows corresponding values in the 1st column.
