The company is using Accpac 300 5.0A from around 2001. The database is pervasive. I will contact Musick as you suggested. I'm hoping for Accpac to be able to be able to accept stub year of 5 months and then the following fiscal with 12 months, and 12 months going forward.

That is indeed old!  I do not think you can do a partial year end.  Others may have had similar requests here in this forum, try searching on 'change fiscal year end', there may be other ways of achieving this.
