Printing not responding

Ran into an issue today where I cannot print from the workstation.  Try to print anything, Sage just hangs, no errors and shows 'not responding' on any report.  Tried GL trial balance, AP batch listing and various other reports.  It was working prior to today.

This is a Win11 workstation, Sage 2025 PU2 with full programs on workstation.  Programs run and can print without issue on Win2022 server.  I re-installed Sage and PU on workstation with no change.  Another interesting issue is that Crystal Reports 11 reacts the same way.  Unable to open up any form.  Program hangs and have to end task to stop.

I was wondering if anyone else ran into this and if good ole MS installed an update to break everything.

Edit**

This error is showing in the Event log.

Error: System Registry Error. The operating system reported "The system cannot find the file specified.
" on attempting to create or open the ACCPAC International, Inc. registry subkey of the \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key (writable was 0)

After uninstalling Sage completely and removing from registry, then reinstalling Sage the problem persists.  I cannot print any report.  Sage works fine as I can create batches, add entries and post batches.  When I try to print anything, Sage hangs.

I'm starting to think that Crystal Reports 2011 may be the issue.  I cannot open any rpt file without crystal hanging and will not open.

    EDIT**

Found the problem and how embarassing.  Printer was turned off.  Once I turned it back on, everything was back to 'normal.'  What I don't understand is, why if I have Sage set to preview, reports do not print and Crystal hangs.  I guess somewhere it checks for a printer.

I’m glad you were able to track down the issue. I don’t believe Sage 300 is actively checking printers itself—that would be a bit excessive. More likely, it’s asking Windows which printers are installed and available to use, so that when Sage 300 opens the print preview or when crystal reports open for editing, it can prepopulate the list with the active printers and its data/drivers.

It’s possible that one of the printers/drivers has a problematic or outdated driver issue, which could be causing the system to hang. While I can’t say with absolute certainty, it would be worthwhile to review the printer module and ensure all drivers are up to date.
