Subreport does not export to excel as data (in a data document) - Is there a way to make that happen?

I have a custom BW report which grabs invoices with a particular due date. I wanted the invoice detail with it which I can easily get, but the key is, I did not want a row for each line item. I wanted this information to be all comprised in a single field. This is easily done by creating a linked sub-report that lists the line items. The problem is when I export the data to excel, it does not export the subreport data at all. I thought it would bring it up as a field in a row with the other data. Now, I can print to an excel "report" data and get it, but it comes across as individual lines similar to if I would have created a plain report with multiple rows for each line item on the invoice. Is there a way to have the consolidated line item detail export as a field to excel data? OR, is there a way through the custom report to loop through and concatenate the line item data or display the information as a block (similar to say how BW allows a user on forms set up to choose an Address Block rather than choose the Name, Addr, etc. as individual fields?
