Disposal Questions

SUGGESTED

Have some questions on disposals. From what I'm reading it sounds like when you do a disposal the application calculates depreciation through the disposal date so it is not included the next time you run depreciation and this amount is not reflected in a JE that links to your ERP correct? Also do you have any control over how much depreciation it takes in a disposal? I believe it's based off the rules of the property type and depreciation method but where do I find those rules? Thank you.

    Hello Dana,

For the Tax book, the disposal calculation does vary depending on a combination of the Property Type, Depreciation Method and Life, and the Placed In-Service date can have an effect from time to time.

But if you are talking about posting, that is not normally done with the Tax methods. What gets posted will be the calculated amount of depreciation on the last run. The only way to control that is by ensuring the Prior Through Date is the prior month so that only the disposal calculation appears there. See What is depreciation this run for more information on what gets sent to on the posting.

Really, without knowing the details of the asset in question, I really cannot answer that question.
