20% Bonus Depreciation

Solved

Hello -

Will 20% Bonus be an eligible election for the MA depreciation methods in the 2026.1 version?  Currently, it does not appear to be an option.

Why would we need it?   Some states are conforming to bonus as of 168(k) at 1/1/2025.  Therefore, bonus in those states would be 20% for 2026 assets.

Thank you.

    Hello Charsco,

If you have 2026.0 or above installed there is a new feature that you can turn on for State book tax purposes to enable the different 168% options for use. You do this by first open the company where the assets are located, then click File menu, Edit company. In there is a box to check for 168% Extra. Click this and check all the listed % there, click ok twice and you will now be able to enter 20% for your state tax assets.

Why does Sage say that 20% is not useable for federal purposes when we have assets acquired prior to 1/20/2025, but not placed into service until 2026, so we should be using 20% on them as anything acquired prior to 1/20/2025 is not eligible for 100%
