Previous Depreciation question

I have an asset that I need to do a partial disposal on.  Unfortunately years ago someone altered some of the months so the system is not allowing a partial no matter what I try.

I'm going to fully dispose of the asset and then add it back in so I can partially dispose of it.  My question is, I know there is a place to add in "accumulated depreciation before" and "last posting date before import" - as an example:

Asset $6000
Life 60 months
$100/month dep

Say the asset has 30 months left to depreciate when I dispose of it.

Do I put it back in at:

Asset $6000
Life 60 months
A/D before $3000

I still want my depreciation to be $100/month because technically we only have 30 months left.  Is the system smart enough to know that?

    Hello Ann,

First, without the complete Book information on the asset and the disposal information, I cannot be very precise.

But I’m a bit confused. If you are doing a partial disposal, you are doing the final calculation on part of the value of the asset, meaning the depreciation calculation will no longer be on that $6,000 value but the remaining portion which would also mean the calculation will no longer be that $100 a month, so that expectation is not making any sense to me.

Also, I cannot think of any change that could be made to an asset which would prevent a Partial Disposal unless you were trying to enter the Partial Disposal date prior to any Beginning date on the asset which you cannot do.

If the asset was created as the Child of a Transfer, I could see that as being a problem. See Beginning Date is the only option when changing Critical Fields for a workaround.

That’s the best I can do without more information.
