Error Message

SUGGESTED

I am trying to open a company for my Sage 50 class but when I try to open the PDF file, it says "Sage 50 cannot open the database because the database engine reported an error. Please see the error log for more information"

I have tried re-installing it and it still shows the same message. Please help! Screenshot attached

    Hi  ,

Thanks for reaching out. The error you’re encountering can occur for several reasons, including Sage 50 files being open in another program, issues with the Connection Manager, or even due to third-party applications like antivirus software.

A comprehensive troubleshooting guide can be found in our Knowledgebase article here: Sage 50 - Database Engine Error Resolution.

Here are a few steps from the article that you can try:

    1. Restart your PC to ensure no Sage files are still running in the background.
    2. Run Sage 50 as an administrator to give it the necessary permissions.
    3. Move the .SAI and .SAJ folders to the desktop and try to open the file from there.
    4. Verify that you have the latest version of the Connection Manager and that it is running.
    5. Temporarily disable your antivirus software and try opening the file again.
    6. Check if there is sufficient free space on your drive.

If you are using the student version and it has expired, you may need to follow the steps outlined in the article on receiving support or assistance for the student version, which includes uninstalling the software, using a clean-up utility, and reinstalling with the same codes. The relevant article can be found here: Student Version Support.

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes or if you need further assistance. If this helps please mark it as verified :)

    Warm Regards,
