Using two versions of the software

SOLVED

Hello, I am an instructor in Ontario Canada and I have a student that has SAGE 50 CT 2025 version of the software for her husbands business.

We are using the 2024 Premium version for the M. Purbhoo textbook. Is there a way that this student can do this course with the files for the textbook with her current software? She is unable to uninstall the 2025 version mentioned above as this is what is used for a business that is currently in operation.

Thanks,

Amanda

    Hi  ,
Thanks for reaching out. Here are some potential solutions for your student's scenario:

    1. Compatibility Issues: The student version of Sage 50 software can only open and create data files using a licensed version of the same type (e.g., 2024 Premium for the textbook). The business version (Sage 50 CT 2025) likely has compatibility limitations. Additionally, if the business is running a different version (e.g., Pro instead of Premium), this could prevent file sharing between systems.

    2. Installing Both Versions on the Same Machine: If the student’s husband is using the 2025 version, and the class requires the 2024 Student Edition, both versions can actually be installed on the same machine without conflict. The student can download the 2024 Student Edition from this page by scrolling down to the section for downloads (available for versions 2022-2025).

    3. Installing the Student Edition Separately: Alternatively, if the student prefers to avoid mixing versions, installing the 2024 Student Edition on a separate PC or laptop is an option.

    4. Virtual Machine Option: If a separate device isn’t available, the student could use virtual machine (VM) software, like Parallels, to create a separate environment for the student version.
