Access & Registration

~Where do I get my Sage 50 student activation codes?
You must register through the Sage Education Program for students website. Once approved, your activation codes will be emailed to you. Tip: Double-check that your email address is entered correctly before submitting; otherwise, you will not receive your codes.

~Can I use my lecturer’s registration key?
No. Each student must register for their own set of registration keys for their own devices. Register here.

~ I didn’t receive my activation codes after I registered. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder first. If you haven’t received your codes after 48 hours, email [email protected] and include the version/year you need.

 ~ My activation codes did not include an Account ID.
The Sage 50 student version does not require an Account ID. To remove the request:

1. Uninstall the student version.
2. Run the student cleanup tool (Critical Step).
3. Reinstall your student version.

 ~ I installed the trial version and now cannot register the software with my student activation codes.
Follow the same steps as above:

1. Uninstall the student version.
2. Run the student cleanup tool (Critical Step).
3. Reinstall your student version.

 ~ What are the system requirements to install Sage 50?

 ~ Where do I download the Sage 50 student software?
After registering, download the exact version your instructor specified and that you registered for from the Sage Education Program for students website.

~ I cannot find the Sage version/year on the Sage Education Program website.
Educational versions of Sage software are updated regularly, and older versions are eventually retired. If you don’t see your version, it’s likely retired. Contact your institution—they may be using an unsupported version.

 ~ Can I install the Sage 50 student version on a Mac?
No. Sage 50 Canadian Edition is a Windows desktop application and is not supported on macOS or virtual machines.

 ~ My activation codes aren’t working — what should I do?
This usually means the version/year of the software you installed does not match the version/year your codes were issued for. Activation codes are also case sensitive.

~ I installed the incorrect version or a trial version of Sage 50. What should I do?
Follow the cleanup and reinstall steps:

1. Uninstall the student version.
2. Run the student cleanup tool (Critical Step).
3. Reinstall your student version.

~ Can I update my Sage 50 student version?
No. Never update the educational versions to the product update versions, such as 202X.1 or 202X.2.  Datafiles created by our approved publishers or ourselves are created in the original release, e.g., 202X.0. If you update, you cannot open the datafiles. And if you convert the datafiles, you cannot convert them back to the original format.

️ Duration & Expiry

 ~ How long does the Sage 50 student version last?
Access is valid for 14 months from activation, covering the typical duration of most courses.

 ~ My Sage 50 student version has expired before the 14 months. What should I do?
Follow the cleanup and reinstall steps:

1. Uninstall the student version.
2. Run the student cleanup tool (Critical Step).
3. Reinstall your student version.

~ What happens when my 14-month access expires?
You will no longer be able to open company data in the student version. Continued access requires purchasing a commercial version of Sage 50.

 Software & Features

 ~ Is this the full Sage 50 Premium version?
Yes. The student version is a desktop replica of Sage 50 Premium Canadian Edition, provided strictly for educational use. It does not include the cloud features.

~ Can I open files from other Sage 50 versions?
No. The student version can only open company files created in the same Sage 50 version.

~ Are all features included in the student version?
Most core features are included. Cloud-based or advanced online services are not available, as this is a desktop-only product.

~ Can I continue using the Sage student version for personal or business use?
No. To use Sage for personal or business purposes, purchase a commercial version. Visit Sage.com for more information.

Common Issues & Tips

 ~ Why can’t I open my data?
This usually happens if the company file was created in a different Sage 50 version. Student versions can only open files created in the exact same version/year. Please contact your lecturer.

 ~ I receive an error that my data has expired, even though my student version is still valid.
Data files created in a student version have a built-in 14-month expiration. Ask your lecturer for updated files in the current Sage 50 educational version.

 ~ My payroll module is not working.
To fix this:

1. Uninstall the student version.
2. Run the student cleanup tool (Critical Step).
3. Delete the folder: C:/Users/Public/Sage Software/Simply/[year of version installed].
4. Reinstall your student version.

 ~ Is support included with the student version?
No. Email, chat, and phone support are not included. Extensive self-help resources are available via the Sage Support Resource Centre. The Sage Knowledgebase is the best place to start.

~ I don’t understand some of the exercises in my textbook.
