Can't set Rate Level of a slip with TSImport

TSImport is successfully importing slips into the database, but it's not defaulting to Rate Level 1. I have the field in my template and it's mapped - the import doesn't fail, but no matter what I have in Rate Level field it defaults to rate level "1" is this an issue with the importer? i'm using Timeslips 2018.

Thanks!

I am looking for a solution to this problem as well.  I am importing slips from another program and need to assign Rate Level 2 to certain slips.  The slips are not specific to a particular client or user, it is just for certain activities that take place.  I have added a column to my csv file for the rate level and manually entered "2" for the slips that apply.  When I preview the import records from the import template, it correctly shows the rate level of 2, but when the slips get imported they all show up under rate level 1.

, my advice remains the same, no need to import the rate level if the rate rule on the client is correct.  You can set a rate rule exception for a particular Task and that will tell it for example to: default to Timekeeper rate 1 unless the task is X, then use Timekeeper rate 2. The import should follow that rule as the slip comes in.

Are you also importing a rate SOURCE? The program may not be able to tell WHICH rate 2. It can get a rate 2 from a Timekeeper, a Client or a Task. So simply saying rate 2 is not enough information for it to know which rate 2 to use.

Thanks, Nancy. I don't believe it will work to configure the rate rules at the client level or task level because of how our source data is set up.  There are just certain activities that we identify that need a different rate code, and it is not specific to a certain client or task.  I have set the default rate source to Task in the import template, but when that didn't work, I tried also adding a rate source field to the import file to specify Task for each slip.  Like I said, Timeslips is reading the rate code field correctly when I preview the import records, but after the slips are actually imported, everything is still at rate code 1.

let's back up, because I may not be understanding the problem correctly. Is the slip coming in with the correct value (time spent x rate)? but just with the wrong rate level? Or, is the value changing to level 1 on import? I.e., rate 1 is NOT the rate value you want to use.

I am confused about what is wrong with the import - the value of the slip? or the rate level? or both?

Hi Nancy, thanks for your patience while I try to explain.  The answer to your question is both: the rate code is wrong, which is causing the slip to get billed with the wrong value.  The csv file that we import does not include the rate value, it only includes the time, task, and the rate code.  When we import the file, Timeslips multiplies the default rate value for the task times the time entered on the slip. Here's an example of what we are trying to do: if we have a slip with one hour of time which we want to be billed at rate level of 2, which is $250 per hour, I have manually entered the rate code of 2 on the csv file for import.  I'm expecting Timeslips to import the slip showing one hour of time at rate code of 2 to produce the $250 charge on the slip.  After the slips are imported, however, they are still at rate code 1, so the slip value is not correct.

I suppose another way to do what we are trying to do would be to create a separate Task in Timeslips that has the rate of $250 for rate code 1. Then, instead of manually changing the rate code to 2 on our csv file, we can change the Task to the new one we've created which has the $250 rate.  It seems like that would work fine, but I'm just stuck on trying to figure out why Timeslips won't import the slips with the rate code of 2 that I've entered.  Given the original posters problem with this six years ago, I'm wondering if it's just a rare bug that Sage hasn't fixed.

    SUGGESTED

Just tested this with my v2015 explore database and TSImport. It works for me. To my knowledge there is no bug.

My slip comes in with Level 2.
