Slip entry - when changing the slip activity, time spent is deleted

Solved

When entering a timeslip, we enter the time spent by entering a time range (ex: 11:00 - 11:45).  If we need to change the task after the time range is entered, the time spent range automatically changes to 11:00 - 11:00, resulting to -0- time spent.  I've tried changing the slip entry sequence, but that doesn't impact the above problem.

This is really a problem when billing a client, but need to change the task name on a slip - the time spent then changes to -0-.

    Hello

When entering a slip, if you fill in the Time Spent field either before or after adding a Task, and then later go back and edit the Task, the Time Spent will revert to 0:00. This occurs because 0:00 is the default time value assigned to all tasks.

Therefore, this behavior is expected and is not considered a defect.

Additionally, Nancy’s statement about running the timer and then changing the task does not cause the time to revert to the task’s default time spent.

's point is that it DID NOT USED to do this, and now it does.

The fact that we get two different behaviors when manually entering a start stop vs. running a timer is further evidence that this is not optimal. We should not have two different outcomes based on how the time spent is entered. Once time spent has been entered, it should stick.

It should never be acceptable to lose data that has been entered into a new slip by changing something else. Having it default to a value is one thing, but once that value has been accepted and then the slip has been changed/edited, then changing that field on the slip should not revert other changes/edits. For example, it is not taking out any entered description, though the default description on a Task is blank.

In  and I's opinion, that is a defect.

, my subconscious was ruminating on this the last few days.... How is the wrong Task getting in there in the first place? Is the user copying from the previous? Perhaps turn that off so that they have to enter the Task every time? Just a thought. If you can keep the wrong Task out, then you would not need to change it.

    Thanks for your support, Nancy.

Why the incorrect tasks?  We do not automatically copy task from previous slip; we enter task for each slip.  Sometimes user error, sometimes it's a judgement call.  For instance, when is something "tax planning" vs "income tax prep"; the lines are blurred sometimes.

Back to the problem, it will be informative to see if Timeslips has any interest in providing a fix for this problem.
