X3 Reference folder rebuild

1 minute read time.

There could be as situation where X3 reference folder has become unstable, and you want to rebuild the X3 reference folder.

In this blog we will go through the steps which could assist to rebuild X3 reference folder

Step 1: Copy FOLDER.jason file available in X3_PUB folder to backup folder

Step 7: Superviseor Update

  • From X3 reference folder Login to function GESADS
  • System will prompt to update Superviseor – wait until it completes

Now that you have rebuild X3 folder you should be able to perform any maintenance work such as folder validation in GESADS

  • I have a severe concern for folders with custom legislation, especially for legislation not in default X3's miscellaneous table 909 such as Vietnamese legislation, Indonesia legislation, Philippines legislation, Korean legislation, or Japan legislation.

Last time I run a folder validation in GESADS, I have managed to completely lose those legislations not in default X3 folder due to the fact I failed a spotcheck to look at the folder's legislation table and did not realize while the code exist, the description is empty when viewed from X3 folder and not from the affected folder.

I have to do a disaster recovery for the affected folder as there are legislation details that need to be recovered and the legislation partner are either defunct or not responding in time.

Another concern I have if there is a possibility of custom patch applied direct to X3 folder which I may not know in advance, especially without any documentation and not knowing how the custom patch behaves.

I personally had accidentally implement custom patch scripts through Patch Integration which were implemented to X3 folder's TRT folder despite never setting X3 as patch target.

Is there a list of things I should check before and while doing an X3 folder rebuild which may not be obvious for those who may inherited a troublesome setup?

  • Rebuild of X3 reference would be rare occurrence and could be more feasible in situation where restore of backup (provided it is up to date prior issue) and reinstall of component may take more time and effort. Recently we had a situation where while upgrading client from 2021 R1 to current release 2024 R1 X3 reference folder reported error due to issues where there was termination of the upgrade process.

  • What are the symptoms of an unstable X3 reference folder. I would also point out that I believe this is a rare condition as I have not seen even a handful of tickets where it was determined to be an unstable X3 reference folder, over the last 8 years. I can see this blog is of great value if this does occur, even more so because it is not something that would need to be done often.
