Sage X3 SEI - Reporting Against Read-Only Replicas

Hi everyone,

Has anyone successfully implemented reporting through Sage Enterprise Intelligence (SEI) against a read-only replica of the X3 database? I'm specifically interested in:

  • Whether SEI natively supports connecting to a read-only replica
  • Any configuration steps required to set this up
  • Potential limitations or considerations when using a replica
  • Impact on reporting performance

We're looking to offload our reporting workload from our production database, and any insights from real-world implementations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello Rebecca

At Datel we have successfully implemented SEI Reporting in X3 database replica's for several of our customers

In answer to your questions - and based in my experience:

    • Whether SEI natively supports connecting to a read-only replica - Yes, we didn't require any "bespoke / Customization" to the product or change in the original queries to achieve offline reporting from the replica.
    • Any configuration steps required to set this up. The Offline reporting is configured as a separate "environment" in SEI so users can swap between "LIVE Reporting", "Offline Reporting" and "Test Reporting"
    • Potential limitations or considerations when using a replica - In our case we have deployed different solutions - same approach as above but with different configuration all due to Database Sizes, resources available from customer end,  .. and from there, design what suits best.
As you can imagine each solution would have its benefits and challenges!
    • Impact on reporting performance - Once again it depends on which solution you go for, i.e: without going too much in depth - a new  "Offline reporting" environment without further changes to software, SQL - wouldn't provide a noticeable improvement -  the queries, hardware and dataset are the same therefore the performance of the report would stay very close to the original one. However, if you build a dedicated SEI Replica server you have more tools available at your reach to tweak and provide further improvements to your reporting.

On these projects we work very closely with our sister company, Datel Advansys, who provides us with all their in depth expertise on Hosting, Hardware,SQL, Performance,...  so we get software and hardware right.

If you would like to present me your case with more details I am happy for you to reach me via message so I can provide a more specific answer.

    Thanks a lot!
