“EFT Overview and missing file” by Alexandre Massoma

1 minute read time.

EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) is a Sage 50 application used by organizations or individuals to transfer or receive money from one account to another. Before starting using EFT, customers have to make arrangements with their financial institution to request a user number (sometimes called a user ID number, originator number, or organization or customer number). When all those information are in your hands and your company profile is created in EFT, you will have to generate a file and send that to your financial institution. Sometimes people are not able to locate the file that was generated on their computers, and by default, Sage 50 EFT will generate the file in the working directory C:/Program Files/EFTSIMPLY/DATA. When you try to upload the file to the bank, browsing to that folder, you might find it empty! There is nothing to worry about as the file was generated, but because of some Windows securities, it’s hidden in what is called “hidden files and folders”. To avoid having that issue, there are 2 things that can be done upfront:

  1. Even  though the program is installed by default under C:/Program  files/EFTSIMPLY, while creating the company, we can change the working  directory outside of Program files for example to C:/EFTSIMPLY/DATA.
  2. The second option will be to install Sage 50 EFT outside of Program Files, for example C:/EFTSIMPLY.

If EFT for Sage 50 is already installed and your company profile is created using all default paths, you have also 2 options:

  1. Create a desktop shortcut on your Data folder using this path: C:/User/<Computer Name>/AppData/Local/Virtual Store/Program Files(X86)/EFTSIMPLY, and from there make a right click on DATA folder and      select “Send to – Desktop Shortcut”
  2. Close Sage 50 EFT, and move DATA folder outside of the virtual folder for example move it from C:/User/<Computer Name>/AppData/Local/Virtual Store/Program Files(X86)/EFTSIMPLY to C:/EFTSIMPLY/DATA, then open Sage 50 EFT. You will have an error message on the working directory and it will  open Sage 50 EFT company maintenance window. From there you can select the folder to be C:/EFTSIMPLY/DATA and Save.

  • Hi there,

Premium is Sage 50 application which is different from EFT. Upgrading your Sage 50 program will not impact directly EFT program if it stays on the same computer.

I assume you have EFT program installed now on one computer. You can install Sage 50 Premium on 4 computers but EFT is not a multi user application. I will recommend having a dedicated workstation to work on EFT.

In the event that you install EFT on a new computer you can follow the recommendation this blog by installing EFT program outside of Program files folder example you can create a folder on the root C:/EFTSIMPLY. The article will help move your EFT data from one computer to the other. But remember EFT is not multi user and it is better to use it on one computer only.
