"I cannot see my account in the general journal when trying to post an entry, but it’s in my list of account" by Alexandre Massoma

Sage 50 accounting is designed with a general ledger and sub-ledgers such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll… When an account is not available in the general journal transaction window, it’s because it may be linked with one of the sub-ledgers I mention above, whether that sub-ledger is hidden or no.

The reason behind that is to avoid creating data inconsistencies between the general ledger and sub-ledgers. To be able to post an entry on a linked account, you will have to make sure that it will not create a discrepancy between the general ledger and the sub-ledger. We understand that you may have some adjusting entries to do, especially at the end of the year, that’s why we strongly recommend checking with your accountant before posting an entry in a linked account.

Another reason why an account does not show in the general journal is that it’s a foreign currency account. For example if a foreign currency bank account is not be available when trying to post an entry it is because the right currency was not selected in the journal entry window.
