“Restoring from backup failed” by Alexandre Massoma

Less than one minute read time.

I’m getting this error while restoring from a backup: "The file cannot be restored to the selected directory because you do not have the rights for this directory."

This is a common issue where the backup was done on a different computer. By default the access path that will show on the restoration wizard window will be the one of the computer where the backup was made and because that path does not exists on the computer where the backup is to be restored, it will give the error message on that directory.

Make sure to read the entire message during the restoring process and change the restoration location to an existing one. For example if the backup was done on a Windows XP computer where the file was located on C:\program files\Winsim\Data and we are restoring on a new computer on Windows 7 or 8, that folder does not exists on those version of Windows, so during the restoration process, we will have to click on Browse, select a location for example C:\Users\Computer Name\My Documents or create a new folder on C:\MySagedata\
