Unable to install release 3 update to XP machine

1 minute read time.

After we rolled out Sage 50 July update last month, we did receive an increasing volume of call-in regarding the difficulty of installing release 3 update to XP machine. Although I have included the KB article link about this issue in my previous blog post, 2013 July Update, dated June 20th, I do not think it is a bad idea going into more details about this problem.

When running the installation of July 2013 Payroll/Product update (SA_2013cpup1.exe) in windows XP machine, some of you may have the installation stopped without any error message. The pop-up window shows no progress bar, with 2 buttons (Restart Update & Cancel) at the lower right hand corner. After clicking Restart Update, it does not do anything.

This happens because the security setting in XP machine thinks the installation of the update is an unauthorized program activity. Therefore, it prevents it from installing itself. By following the steps below to uncheck that setting, the update installation will run smoothly.

  1. Go to the default download folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Shared Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\Download\)
  2. Look up SA_2013cpup1.exe, the update file
  3. Right click the update file and select Run As
  4. In the popup window, select Current User
  5. Uncheck Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity
  6. Click OK

Hopefully, you will have a smooth installation of the release 3 update in your XP machine. For more suggestion, please follow the link below to access the KB article.
