I'll assume you're using the Sage 50 Canadian software, one of the recent versions.

One way this could happen is that the history was cleared. There is a setting in Sage 50 to automatically clear paid invoices.

Can you open prior invoices using drill-down from the Journal Entry list?

Ok Thanks I will check that when I get home tonight. Is there a way to get the beginning of the year onto the drop-down date menu?

If the transactions are invoices, and if they are not cleared, they should show on the list.

I was suggesting opening the invoices from the Journal Entry List as a diagnostic test, not as a work-around for some part of the program that is broken.  

I'm using Sage 50 Pro Accounting (Release 2014.0)
I can view them as journal entries but not as invoices.

What happens when you try to view the invoices by clicking them in the journal entry report?

They show up in ledger form

Not sure what you mean, if you mean that older invoices entered on the invoice screen now open in the Journal Entry screen, it could be a result of major data corruption.

If you mean that there's an error message, or nothing, when you click on the Journal Entry number in the Journal Entry list, that's because there's nothing there.

If you've tried opening the older invoices from several different reports (the General Ledger, the Journal Entry list, the Aged Receivables Detail, etc.) and the financial information is there, but the detail isn't, that sounds more like the detail has been cleared.

If the data has become corrupted, you may need to restore from a previous backup. for more assistance with that, please contact Sage software's support desk, or a local Sage consultant.

So, I realize what happened. I deleted a bunch of "inventory & services" that are no longer relevant. To do this I had to select "Clear data". NEVER AGAIN.
I had a 1 week old backup which is a pretty easy recovery. Thanks for your help

It's not necessary (and sometimes not eve desirable) to delete old inventory items. Make them inactive, or put 'zzz' in front of the item code.
