Setting up credit cards - correct asset acct

SOLVED

Hello,

I am setting up my company and entering the credit cards that we accept.  At the end of the day when we close the batch on our credit card machine, the funds for the day, minus the discount fees, are deposited right into our bank account.  Having said that, is it correct to set the "Asset" account to our bank account?  A friend told me that I had to set it to "Credit Cards Receivable", but I don't see how that would be correct since that wouldn't cause the money to show-up in my bank account.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Cheers,

Andrew

If the fees are known, set up in Sage 50, for that credit card, and taken off each transaction and the credit cards are deposited separately and more or less immediately, there's no need for a separate Credit Cards Receivable account.

In the olden days, batches were on paper, and handled as bank deposits. If the electronic transaction workflow is more or less the same as the old paper system - i.e. fees are on the electronic batch listing and multiple card charges are going in to the bank account as one deposit -  then it's easiest to use the Bank Deposit screen to move the total from a pending Credit Cards Receivable account to the actual bank account.
