Segmented GL codes in Chart of Accounts

SOLVED

Hello,

I need to set up a segmented chart of accounts in Sage 50 Canadian Edition 2019. A same code would look like this 1010 - 1000 Cash - Operating Fund. Is there a way to do this in the Canadian Edition?

All the instructions I have found for the the US premium edition which is not helpful as I am in Canada.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Jeanette:

You must use Premium or Quantum to enable 8 digit G/L account numbers. To change from 4 to 8 go to Setup, Settings, General, Numbering and change the number of digits to 8 in your case. Before doing this do a backup in case you need to go back to your original file with 4 digits. With Premium or higher you may also use departments which add an additional 4 digits. Check out the sample company to ensure you want an digit G/L account number or maybe departments will fill the bill.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello Agate,

It turns out the adjustment I needed to make was enabling departments in the settings menu. It gives the 1010 - 1000 look to the codes. It turns out the a difference between the Canadian and us editions is terminology. They call it segments I. The USA and we call it departments in canada

if you just change the amount of digits it does not allow for the dash

thank you for your answer. It was helpful
