General ledger report will not open.

I opened the income statement and doubled clicked to display the general ledger report for the account but I cannot view the report on screen and when I hover over the General Ledger report icon on taskbar its blank.  I am working on a laptop with no attachments.  Any ideas?

This is happening more often.  I purchase Sage 50 in July 2020, I have the latest update for 2020 but there appears to be some issue with the connection manager since the manager was updated.  I have confirmed manager connection from my task bar.  I have stopped and started service several times, restarted my computer several times and still have no access to the reports.  I feel like I'm dealing with Microsoft; nothing is working and teck support wants me to pay to find out what doesn't work with their software.

    Hello ,

Thanks for reaching out. Did you ever find a resolution to this? Looks normal in the 2021 version, I can drill down:

If you're having issues, it may be data related, here's KB 18518 with details on what to try if you cannot drill down into a report, usually an "unhandled exception error" shows. You can rule out whether it's related to your data by trying the reports in the sample company.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

It was not data related, I confirmed data integrity, Balance sheet balanced and Income statements agreed to Balance sheet.  This was all confirmed, tested and reviewed before I posted.

The inability to open detail from statements or through the specific report function is an intermittent issue.  This is happening more frequently and am just trying to make it to the end of fiscal year, PDF the GL and open a new set of books.

It would appear that you have not tried what Erzi suggested. Try opening the Sample Company, Universal Construction and the same report you are trying. Then try to drill down. If this works then the problem will be with your data. There is more information in the data than what is tested in data integrity or in comparing the numbers between reports. Try Erzi's suggestion and then post the results. this will narrow the possible causes.

It's likely that your window positions are off.  When you double click to open the General Ledger report, immediately hit Alt-Spacebar.

There should be a menu show up.  Select M for Move.

If the menu showed up at the top right, then hit the down and left arrows independently to move the window back on screen.  If the menu showed at the bottom left, then use the up and right arrows to move it back on screen.

I did all the testing before the original post and I don't have a sample company to play with so did testing on another client's data and couldn't get it to open account details either.

I have no issues with position; I play some small games on this machine that actually require accuracy with the mouse to hit targets.

The experience I see from your original post is that you double-click on an account in the Income Statement that should open the General Ledger report on screen but it disappears and only shows as an icon on the task bar.

It just happened to me on a client's computer this morning (Vendor Icon Window, not a report).  We opened the window and part of the bottom right-hand corner showed at the top left corner of the screen but we could not access the title bar so we could move it with the mouse.  I took control of the computer, hit Alt-Spacebar and hit the down arrow about 10 or 15 times and the right arrow about 5 times, hit Enter to leave Move mode and then I could use the mouse on the title bar to move the window.

The only other thing I can think of is to hit Maximise from the Alt-Spacebar menu to see if it will bring it to full screen mode.

If you used a default install of Sage 50, you have the sample files installed, see image below.
