Chart of Accounts Numbering

SUGGESTED

Is there some way to have operating revenues from Acct 4000-4999, Op Expenses 5000-5999, then a section for Capital Revenues 6000-6999 and Capital Expenses 7000-7999.  Basically I would like to have a revenue and expense section which would then provide an operating income and then a similar section for capital?

I have tried to cut off expenses at 5999, but it won't let me create another account group for the capital section

    Hi  ,

Thank you for your query about structuring the Chart of Accounts in Sage 50 Canada to accommodate your operating income and capital sections.

Based on your description, you're looking to organize your accounts by certain ranges for operating revenues, expenses, and capital. To do this effectively, you might consider the following steps:

    1. If you are using the Premium edition or higher, you can change the account ranges:

      • Go to Setup, then Settings, and select General (Accounts), Numbering.
      • Here you can change the Starting Account Number and Ending Account Number as needed.
    2. For creating new accounts within these ranges, follow these steps:

      • Select the Company module.
      • Click on the Chart of Accounts icon.
      • Select File, then Create.
      • Enter the Account number and Name according to the range you want to set it in (e.g., 7000-7999 for Expenses).
      • On the Account tab, select the proper Type, and under Class Options, select the appropriate class.

Remember that every set of accounts must start with an H (group heading) and end with a T (group total), and for every sequence of A (subgroup account), an S (subgroup total) should follow. This will help ensure your accounts are in logical order.

If you encounter limitations with the account range, such as not being able to create a new group for the capital section, you might need to review the current setup to ensure that accounts are organized logically (H, A, S, G, T). If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Sage 50 Canada support or checking out the learning videos in the Essentials learning library for more detailed guidance.

If you are not able to resolve the issue with these steps, it might be necessary to consider custom solutions or reach out to Sage support for assistance with your specific setup.

Please let us know if there's anything else you need help with.

    Warm Regards,
    Erzsi

I have changed the expense category to 5000-5999 and it will not let me create another category starting with 6000 - I am rather confused

I have tried with a brand new company and you cannot add any other account groups - you can change the numbering but you are unable to add an account group called Other Revenue and Other Expenses or an account group of any type.
